The Indian Embassy in Spain has stated that two Indian nationals onboard the expedition cruise vessel MV Hondius are currently “asymptomatic and healthy” amid concerns surrounding a reported hantavirus-related situation linked to the ship.
The clarification came after international reports regarding a health-related development onboard the vessel triggered concern among passengers and families. According to the embassy, Indian authorities are in contact with local officials and are closely monitoring the situation.
Officials confirmed that the two Indian citizens onboard have not shown any symptoms and are in stable condition. Necessary medical protocols and precautionary measures are reportedly being followed by the ship authorities and health agencies.
The vessel, MV Hondius, had recently drawn international attention following reports associated with a hantavirus case involving passengers onboard. Health authorities are continuing to assess the situation while coordinating with local medical teams and maritime officials.
The Indian Embassy in Spain also assured that it remains in regular communication with the concerned individuals and local authorities to ensure all necessary assistance is provided if required.
Hantavirus is a virus primarily transmitted through rodents and can, in some cases, lead to severe respiratory illness. Health experts, however, have repeatedly stated that human-to-human transmission remains extremely rare depending on the strain involved.
The incident has generated widespread discussion online, with social media users seeking updates regarding the condition of passengers onboard the vessel and the response from international authorities.
Meanwhile, officials have urged the public to avoid panic and rely only on verified updates issued by health departments and diplomatic authorities.
Further information is expected as authorities continue monitoring the situation.
